Letter from President Cédric Vasseur (May 2009)

Dear Colleagues, Dear Friends,

Even if you have been very busy during the spring taking part in beautiful Classics, I hope that you had time to familiarize with our new communication tool which enables us to know your personal opinion about various important subjects with which you will maybe be confronted in a near future. If you still don’t know how to use it, please don’t hesitate to contact Pascale Schyns, who will be pleased to explain you how it works. We thank you for being each time more numerous to take part in these opinion polls.

Are you ready to participate in a Grand Tour within a 8 riders team?  Do you think it would be a good thing if one of the three Grand Tour was only two weeks long ? Do you wish to elect your president directly?  These are some of the questions which will allow us to make so that the CPA is each time closer to you, more dynamic, more credible and comes up to your expectations.

You noted that the race reports, which you can download from our website www.cpasite.org, are simplified. We encourage you to fill those forms. Thanks to your help, which is really necessary, it will be possible to improve your work conditions. You have to know that the UCI assured us that the content of each report will be analyzed. Later on, we will also let you know which their conclusions are as well as the decisions they will take on their basis. (next...)

News

The CPA expresses its deep indignation at Bernard Kohl’s statements who in the newspaper L’Equipe told that it is impossible to win big races without doping and that the first ten (in the Tour) should have been positive. It is indeed not worthy on behalf of a sportsman to get other people dirty to lessen his own responsibility. The CPA reminds that the majority of the riders is clean and respects the Antidoping rules. The fact that Bernard Kohl told the entire bunch behaves the way he did is unacceptable.

Taking into account the defamatory character of such assertions, the CPA plans to take legal actions.

Press releases

Following the news recently released in the media, and confirmed by the facts, according to which some team managers obliged their riders to sign an additional clause to their contracts which specifies that in the event they test positive they have to pay back one or more years of their salaries and other emoluments to their employers, the CPA reminds all the riders who belong to a ProTour or Continental Professional Team that the UCI Regulation which includes the Joint Agreement, does not allow to add a clause which impinges on the riders’ rights.
